About Us

Green Baby Shoppe Inc was founded by Nicole Dowd, a work-at-home mom with a marketing degree from RIT who always wanted to start her own business.

It was 2007 and I was pregnant with my first child. I knew I wanted to cloth diaper my son so he wasn't exposed to all the chemicals of disposable diapers, not to mention so we could save money and some waste from the landfill! To be honest, I think my husband's main reason of going along with it was to save money! But, that's okay, he agreed to cloth diaper and that's all I cared about!

So I went to the local baby superstore and bought some prefold diapers. I couldn't find pins or rubber pants (that's what I assumed I'd be using like my mom used for me and I was okay with that because it was healthier for my baby). I showed the diapers to my mom who said they were terrible - they were neither absorbent nor soft. But that was all I could find locally, so I hit the internet looking for more absorbent and softer prefolds, rubber pants and pins.

Boy was I shocked by what I found! An all-in-one? A pocket diaper? A fitted diaper? PUL diaper covers? A diaper sprayer? What the heck are these? Look at all the different brands! I wasn't expecting to have choices other than size and I had no idea what to order! I tried to research but found pros and cons for everything and found several recommended brands and styles. The research only confused me more! I was forced to purchase diapers online without seeing anything and without a resource to learn what types of cloth diapers might work best. I ordered a bunch of different things and it was a trial and error to figure out what I was doing!
So after my son was born, I wanted to take the knowledge gained from my cloth diapering trial and errors and use it to help other parents. We shouldn't have to order so many things and choose a cloth diapering system on our own! I would like to be a resource to help other parents choose cloth diapering and find diapers that will work for them. For me, cloth diapering was easier than disposables once I found what worked for us. The amount of time you have, the monetary investment you'd like to make, whether you stay home with baby or use a sitter, the body type of baby, and many more things will all impact the types of diapers that will be easiest for you. That being said, we offer free no obligation cloth diapering consultations in the Central New York area! I want you to benefit from my diapering "mistakes" and discoveries!

In addition to cloth diapers, I've gotten into other natural and organic products for baby and mom. It wasn't until after my son was born that I learned of all the chemicals in all the products we use. I've been switching my family over to organic and chemical-free products so I have also added (and continue to add) many of them to Green Baby Shoppe's inventory to make them easy for you to find as well. If you learn of new or different products, please let me know!

At this time we are an online store with plans to open a retail location when the Central New York market can support it. Until that time, we offer local pick-up and delivery options to save our CNY customers on shipping! As mentioned earlier, we also offer free, no obligation cloth diapering consultations in order for you to be able to see the different diapers and products and ask any questions.
Our principal goals are to help other parents cloth diaper & go green and to offer the best products for our families. If you are looking for something we do not carry, please let us know and we will try to get it for you or let you know where you can find it. We are continually expanding our inventory to include the products you want and need.
